VI. Dwellings
Housing Justice, Eco-Tourism, Independent Living

What we work on:
-
Worker and seasonal accommodation models that link housing with regional jobs
-
Warranty, escrow and documentation design for residential building and maintenance work
-
Data on local housing and visitor demand to support planning and policy
Who it serves: local government planners and housing policymakers; workers and young people who need a place to live to take up regional work; building and maintenance trades.
Work with us:
-
Residents and visitors: invite us in to collaborate on research about unjust housing in Western Australia
-
Councils and policymakers: partner on pilots that link housing supply with local workforce needs.
-
Investors and sponsors: co-invest in regional housing capability with lasting local benefit.

Key Focus: A safe, secure and affordable home is the base for every other capability a person can build.
The capability gap: In Australia's Great Small Cities, housing is a justice issue. Tight rental markets, insecure tenancies and rising costs push out the people a town depends on most: young people, hidden workers, essential workers and families on low incomes. At the same time, the trades who could build and repair homes are in short supply; unsafe homes in need of repairs remain unsafe. Small builders and contractors are stretched thin, apprentices are hard to keep, and jobs wait months for the right people.
